Winter walks around Praia do Cabeço

One of the best times to visit the Algarve is during the winter.

The mild climate and three hundred plus days of sunshine per year, make it the perfect destination if you want a winter break and to enjoy the outdoors.

If like us, you enjoy walking, the Casas da Audiência development provides an ideal central location which is close to the beach, and between the tourist towns of Monte Gordo and Altura.

Walking on an almost deserted beach with hardly anyone around, when the sun is shining, and all you can hear are the seagulls and the waves, is one of most enjoyable pastimes for those of us who have the flexibility to work our own hours. You can either head east towards Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António, or west towards Altura, and if you are feeling really energetic, towards Manta Rota and Caçela Velha.

When the tide is high, and the beach is not as flat to walk on, you can always walk through the woods to Monte Gordo, and then take the Passadiço (wooden walkway or promenade) to walk from one side of the town to the other. There and back takes about an hour and twenty minutes, at a moderate pace, and is well worth the trip.

Stopping off at Praia do Cabeço on your way back from your walk along the beach, Sem Espinhas provides a great spot for a coffee, or a well-deserved cold beer. If you are walking later in the day, it is also a great location for a bottle of wine and to watch the sun go down.

In our video, we thought we would give you a flavour of our beach, and the idyllic winter lifestyle that we have here in the Eastern Algarve.

Enjoy.
